No. Adults 21 and older can buy at licensed adult-use dispensaries with a valid government-issued photo ID.

Can visitors from out of state buy cannabis in New York?

Yes, with a valid government-issued photo ID showing they are 21 or older. A passport works.

How much can I possess?

Up to 3 ounces of cannabis and up to 24 grams of concentrate. Up to 5 pounds can stay at home.

What taxes will I pay?

13% in total: 9% state and 4% local. There is no sales tax on adult-use cannabis.

Where can I use cannabis?

At home or on private property where the owner allows it. City law bans smoking and vaping in parks, beaches, plazas, outdoor dining and transit, and you cannot use it in a car.

Can I use it in a car as a passenger?

No. You cannot consume cannabis in a vehicle, moving or parked, even as a passenger.

Can I fly with cannabis?

Yes. Each adult can grow 3 mature and 3 immature plants, up to 6 and 6 per household.

Can I give cannabis to a friend?

Yes, within the possession limit, to another adult 21 or older, as long as nothing is paid for it. Free cannabis with a purchase of something else is illegal.

Can licensed shops deliver?

Yes. Delivery is prepaid, it has to go to an address that is not a public place, and the driver checks ID at the door.

How are shops picked for this guide?

Every shop is on New York's list of licensed dispensaries. We pick shops worth the trip and recheck every listing each month. Featured partners pay for placement and are always labeled.

Does this site sell cannabis?

No. We are an independent directory. We do not sell cannabis.
