Bring the right ID

You need a valid government-issued photo ID showing you are 21 or older. A passport works for international visitors. An expired ID will not get you in.

Same limit as locals

New York's limits are set for everyone 21 and older: up to 3 ounces of cannabis and up to 24 grams of concentrate.

Where you can actually use it

Not in Central Park or any other park, not in Times Square or other pedestrian plazas, not on beaches or boardwalks, not at outdoor dining tables and not in the subway. City law treats cannabis smoke like tobacco smoke in all of these. Use it at a private home where the owner allows it.

Before you fly home

Finish it or leave it. It is illegal to take cannabis out of New York, and adult-use cannabis is still illegal under federal law. Do not pack it for a flight out of JFK or LaGuardia.
